| Clubbers describe their favourite Phil Reynolds set -
29/08/02 |
My favourite Phil Reynolds set has to be at the hard house
academy on 10th august 2002.
My friends and I had the hard house
academy booked in our diaries for months as the finale to the phatest summer of
clubbin and festivals. Frantic’s 5th birthday was perfect timing for my farewell
bash before i left the country to study in America for a year. And i wanted to
make sure i introduced my friends to brixton academy (the place where it all
started for me back in march) before i left, as i knew they'd love it-who
wouldnt?!
the academy was stompin and the atmosphere was absolutely
electric. we had spent most of the night kickin it out on the balcony, until
phil came on and i took my friend (a virgin to the land of hardhouse!) right
down to the very front to see one of my favourite djs properly. phil was bringin
the night to its peak and the clubbers were going absolutely balistic, including
us, as we watched the rest of our friends going mental high above us on the
balcony! my mate was absolutely lovin it and she had never danced that hard
before in her life! phil had spotted us in the crowd and was entertained by me,
while i danced for him and his filthy tunes! i will never forget those moments
on my last nite out, dancing amongst the other 4,500 fellow nutters to phil's
wicked set while he warmed us up for some seriously hardcore farelytime!
after his set, i went to shake his hand and to my surprise, he made
a point of giving me a kiss on the cheek! so i had an even bigger grin on my
face for the rest of the mornin! those memories of phil's bangin set will stay
with me forever.
Basically this is a hard one...i could say Euphoria
at Shepherds Bush two years ago when he played "Come Dance With Me" as the final
track or even this year when we saw him play at Harder Faster........ but for me
the ultimate set would have to be at the Cook in Shepherds Bush nearly three
years ago, only my second clubbing night and it was absolutely amazing. The
final song that night was "Generator!!"... Needless to say I am still clubbing
now..thanks to that inspiring, thumping set!! There are only a few of us left in
London now of the group that used to stalk Phill around London to the venues he
played so I would love to win these tickets!
My fave set by the lush
man himself was at Hard House Academy. Not only did he treat my eyes to a lil
bit of wiggling, but he didn't turn my marriage proposal down flat. The man is
gorgeous!!
TIMELESS II CAMDEN PALACE 6 OCTOBER 2001
It
was Saturday night 11 months ago and I had only been in London a few months and
had not yet been out clubbing before. Some friends I met on a Middle East trip
had made it their Mission to get me out on it that weekend and Timeless was the
occasion. We arrived, and after freaking out being searched for the first time
we entered Camden Palace. After being talked into sampling the clubbers diet
about 1/2 way through the night I started to really have some fun.... Phil
Reynolds (who I had never even heard of then) played a massive 3 hour set to end
the night which happened to start just as I was peaking. I was up on the stage
giving it all that for the full 3 hours..... Needless to say Phil has become one
of my Favourite DJ's along with Tara Reynolds too.... Clubbing most weekends I
wonder why I waited so long to go clubbing over here.
I THINK THE
STAND OUT PERFOMANCE FOR PHIL REYNOLDS MUST BE AT FRANTICS FIFTH BIRTHDAY AT
BRIXTON ACADEMY, THE ATMOSPHERE WAS AMAZING AND HE HAD THE CROWD EATING OUT OF
HIS HAND WITH SOME KILLER TRACKS AND SOME PHAT BEATS. THE BRIXTON ACADEMY SET
THE PERFECT SCENE FOR A FANTASTIC NIGHT, WITH PHIL AND THE FRANTIC CREW TAKING
TOP HONOURS. WITH PLENTY OF HIGH QUALITY COMPETITION TO TAKE THE SPOTLIGHT OFF
PHIL, HE MANAGED TO GAIN EVERYONES ATTENTION AND RESPECT WITH HIS PERFECT SET
AND GREAT CONTROL OVER THE CROWD. THIS IS JUST ONE EXAMPLE OF PHIL REYNOLDS
BRILLANCE. EVERY TIME HE PLAYS A SET, IT IS AN EXPERIENCE. EACH ONE BETTER THAN
THE NEXT ONE. HE CERTAINLY KNOWS HOW TO EVOLVE WITH THE TIMES. I LOOK FORWARD TO
THE NEXT ONE!!
My most memorable Phil favourite is going to happen
this Saturday at Camden (the home of good times) as I dance like a man possessed
to the last and greatest 3 hour set this legend will magically produce. We all
know why, the man is simply a DJing genius and when he's in the zone the boy
creates new types of fire. The sounds this kid puts out makes more energy in the
house than that produced by Homer and colleges at the Springfield nuclear power
plant, and he knows it and shows it which just adds to it. A genuine crowd
pleaser, just add water!
There's been a few! I thought his set at
Hard House Academy when Frantic was 5 rocked big time. There's nothing quite
like driving beats and uplifting melodys spun through a killer sound system. I
did enjoy that I must say. However the best set that I thought he's played was
at the beloved palace@Unity. The night started fantastic for me and I was
buzzing right from the start. Ian M and Karim killed it with their Hard beat
antics and it was zebadee all the way. Then it was Reynolds. A few tunes into
his set and you could tell straight away that this is was gonna be something
special. A pure atmospheric-lifting, arms in the air, smiley face moment. It
really was the nuts. Then I was off my tree proper and pounding away like a
goodn' all over the Palace making my way up to one of the balcony's to take it
all in. I met this guy from up North while standing looking at the stomping see
of colour he goes 'He's not bad his he that Phil Reynolds' I laughed to myself
as it sounded like the biggest understatement of the decade! 'To right mate, to
right'
Best set - earlier this year - wandered down to the Bondi Bar
in Acton in a post club daze one Saturday to watch the rugby only to find it was
someones b'day and the whole place was going off already, then Phil turned up to
play and the place went nuts.......my quiet afternoon nursing a beer watching
rugby went right out the window.
It was the 82 Wimbledon final:
Reynolds v Bjorg. Bjorg had just uncharacteristically lost his cool on a dodgy
line call and was complaining to the ump about Reynolds' insistence on humming
"Touch me, I get a rush" before crucial points. Reynolds went on to play a
blinder, winning the set 6-zip, leaving the Reynolds faithful at SW19 to stand
up and wave their arms around with curiously wide smiles on their faces (in the
traditional manner). |

| 18/05/02 - Frantic Guide to Londn |
Frantic would like to welcome in the Summer with a limited
edition guide to how to have the most fun at London's favourite
club:
1)Arrival Frantic is always busy. This doesn't mean that you
should have to wait long to get into the club. You should try and get there
as early as you can. Its best to try and avoid the "rush hour" of 2230-0030
as this is when most people turn up and you will experience some congestion
just as you would on the tube or with any other service. However unlike many
clubs in London we open at 9pm rather than 10pm, because it means that
customers have an extra hour to get into the club. This keeps the Queue to a
minimum.
The Queues are clearly labelled using posters on the front of
Camden Palace. Those on the free and paying Guestlist and those collecting
tickets purchased by credit card should Q on the left handside of the
building. Two people run the credit card list and Two people the free list.
Two people run the paying Guestlist. If you are on the list your name will be
crossed off and you will be given a raffle ticket, which you then present to
the cashier.
The right hand Queue is for people with tickets. It is
also for those who want to pay on the door. Frantic always give ticketholders
priority. We aim to sell out by the day before the event, so that anyone who
is considering paying on the door will turn up early before the majority of
ticketholders turn up. If ticketholders turn up while we are still allowing
people to pay on the door then the Security will regularly call them up to
the front of the Q. The payers on the door will be held back while
ticketholders are allowed in.
2) The Search Camden Palace has to
obtain a special license called a Music and Dance license to put on club
events. As part of the regulations all customers must be subject to a search.
Its worthwhile bearing in mind that the more bags you bring the longer this
search will take, so regular clubbers tend to avoid bringing large
bags.
3)The Cloakroom Put the text I wrote on Wed. 4)Air
conditioning As part of the regulations of the Dance license Camden must have
air conditioning. In the Summer they put this on before we open and this
ensures that there are the required amount of changes of air every hour as
required by law. 4) Water There is always free drinking water in the
toilets. There are 5 bars at the Palace that also have bottled
water.
5)Toilets The toilets have recently been refurbished. However
if for any reason you are concerned about the state of the toilets, eg they
have run out of toilet paper, please dont hesitate to contact the promoters
who are in the box office between 9pm and 4am. In the last 2 hours you can
mention it to the security at the front of the
venue.
Conclusion Frantic have run 28 events at Camden Palace over the
last 3 years. We work hard to make the entry and departure from the venue as
quick and easy as possible. We work closely with the Venue managment team
that have run hundreds of sell out events at the Palace over the last 10
years. This means that we are always doing our best to get you onto the
dancefloor in the shortest time possible!
